||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Certificate IV in Building Biology (22141VIC) is a one year full time or two year part time course consisting of 8 subjects (six core and two electives subjects). National accreditation enables eligible students to apply for Austudy and other types of government funding. Designed to produce Building Biologists at the highest level, the course provides a detailed understanding of the health hazards in and around the built environment. Students will learn to identify allergens and conduct mould, electromagnetic field, geomancy and indoor air quality audits. Building material selection and design will also enable students to work alongside builders and architects to construct dwellings that are not only energy efficient, but support the health and wellbeing of the occupants who live and work in them. Utilising occupational hygiene techniques, students will learn to conduct air, dust, mould and chemical sampling. The course focuses on ways to reduce and, where possible, mitigate the health hazards to provide clients with a cost effective way to reduce their exposure. Most of the course can be completed via correspondence, however students will need to attend a seven day practical intensive in Melbourne (late January 2012) to complete the Air Sampling and Electrobiology subjects (Geobiology is also available as an elective). Graduates of this course are eligible to join the Australasian Society of Building Biologists at the highest level. Click HERE for the latest timetable. The intensive is held in January of each year in Box Hill, Melbourne, Victoria..
